Southeast Alaska Fish Rights Robbed – Victor Smith (Part 2 – 2007)

Groundswell presents two of Victor Smith’s articles from AlaskaReport.com in 2007 on how Senator Ted Stevens’ son, Ben Stevens, and his associates were affecting major legislation concerning the SE Alaska seine fleet buyback (originally brought to Congress as a program for all seiners in Alaska — before a bait-and-switch con was played), and about SB113 which would have aided federal rationalization (Catch Share public larcenies!) by changing Alaska law.  A lot of regular fishermen and coastal community residents went to work to defeat that bill, sponsored by Ben Stevens while state senate president.  The two-part series that follows also covers the role of the FBI investigations as federal funds were kicked back to fish processors and organizations who paid consulting fees to Ben.  It’s quite the set of stories….  here’s part 2:
